आज नवरात्रि का पांचवा दिन है: स्कंदमाता की पूजा की जा रही है दशक का आज पांचवा दिन है जो औपचारिक रूप से घटस्थापना के बाद से शुरू हुआ है। 

स्कंदमाता भगवती की पूजा देशभर के शक्ति पीठों में की जा रही है। नवरात्रि के पांचवें दिन, स्कंद कुमार कार्तिकेय को स्कंदमाता के नाम से पुकारा जाता है, क्योंकि वे हमेशा बच्चे को अपनी बाहों में रखते हैं और उन्हें स्नेह देते हैं। शास्त्रों में उल्लेख किया गया है कि स्कंदकुमार कार्तिकेय ने बाएं हाथ में कमल का फूल और दाहिने हाथ पर ऊपरी हाथ में पकड़कर ऊपर की ओर एक मुहर लगाई हुई है।

  हिंदू धर्म के भक्त अष्ट मातृका के विभिन्न शक्ति पीठों में भगवान नवदुर्गा को श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित कर रहे हैं, जो अनादि काल से उत्पन्न और स्थापित हैं। राजधानी के मंदिरों और शक्ति पीठों में भक्तों का जमावड़ा लगा रहता है जिनमें गृहेश्वरी, दक्षिणिंकली, नक्सल भगवती, भद्रकाली और विले शामिल हैं।
